Supporting Students To Achieve a L2 Qualification In Maths

Identify and meet the needs of students continuing L2 study at post-16

What is involved?

This is for teachers whose students will study Level 2 maths across secondary and post-16. Teachers of Years 10 and 11, and of post-16 GCSE Maths resit and/or Functional Skills Maths, will develop ways to support students who need to study maths beyond age 16 to achieve a L2 qualification.

Work Groups will focus on developing transferable teaching techniques aligned to teaching for mastery. Participants will attend workshops and complete practice-based tasks between sessions.

Who can apply?

This Work Group is for teachers of GCSE Maths, and for those teaching GCSE Maths resit and/or Functional Skills Maths. 

Participants may be based in secondary schools, UTCs, FE colleges, Sixth Form colleges, schools with post-16 provision, or other post-16 settings.

 

WHAT ARE THE EXPECTATIONS?

Participants’ institutions must commit to:

  • releasing participants to attend all Work Group sessions (equivalent of three full days)
  • allowing them to to complete practice-based tasks between sessions

Participants must commit to:

  • attending all Work Group sessions and engaging with and completing tasks between Work Group sessions

 

What is the cost?

The Supporting Students To Achieve a L2 Qualification In Maths Work Group is fully funded by the Maths Hubs Programme so is free to participating schools/colleges.

 

Where and When?

All sessions will be face to face at Leicester College.

  • Session 1- Friday 22nd November, 1-4pm
  • Session 2- Friday 13th December, 1-4pm
  • Session 3- Friday 24th January, 1-4pm
  • Session 4- Friday 28th February, 1-4pm
  • Session 5- Friday 4th April, 1-4pm
  • Session 6- Friday 25th June, 1-4pm
