NCETM School Development Lead Programme

An opportunity for LLME who support leaders of a school - or a group of schools - to develop maths on behalf of the Maths Hub.

This project aims to support mathematics leads whose role is to lead change in a school or group of schools other than their own. The School Development Lead Programme is designed specifically to enable the leaders of maths school development to enhance leadership capacity and capability in the schools they support through their role.

This is part of the Maths Hubs Network’s strategy to build up a group of Mathematics School Development Leads, and to strengthen the capacity of local leaders of mathematics education (LLME).

What is involved?

This programme is designed to enable leaders of maths school development to enhance leadership capacity and capability in the schools they support. It will provide regional support through workshops (face-to-face, run regionally across England, and online), practice development activities, and an online community.

Participants design and lead a school development initiative, aimed at supporting the development of school and subject leaders, as they explore, prepare and deliver changes to their setting’s maths provision.

What are the benefits?

Participants will:

  • support schools, groups of schools or MATs to establish sustainable cross-school approaches to collaboration and development for maths teaching
  • start to use collaborative Work Group models as one of their school development strategies
  • incorporate new processes and models into their school development practice
  • evaluate and review the effectiveness of specific maths school development models
  • develop skills in driving improvement in maths, including developing the capacity of school leadership of maths
  • know and understand of the challenges and barriers to school development in maths and how to tackle them
  • know and understand effective approaches to teaching maths, including teaching for mastery.

Who can apply?

The programme is for colleagues working with school and subject leaders in a school or group of schools other than their own. It will benefit those with significant experience of developing maths leadership capacity, or those newer to the role. Usually, participants will have completed the NCETM PD Lead Programme and have some experience of working directly with senior leaders outside of their own setting.

Participants must commit to the full programme and will need the support of the headteacher of their own school and/or MAT.

What is the cost?

Participants will be funded to attend programme events and work with their Cohort Lead; a total of
four days.
