This Work Group aims to secure firm foundations in additive relationships and the development of good number sense for all children from Reception through to Year 1 and Year 2

Embedding the Impact Community

 

This community offers schools that have previously engaged in Mastering Number at Reception and KS1 continued support to embed the programme in their school. It also supports Year 3 teachers to build on pupils’ prior learning by using centrally produced teaching materials to secure pupils’ fluency.

KS2 Work Group

 

This Work Group enables pupils in Years 4 and 5 to develop fluency in multiplication and division facts, and a confidence and flexibility with number that exemplifies good number sense.

Schools who apply must be commited to being part of a Primary Teaching for Mastery Work Group in 2025/26

(Introductory) Work Group

 

This two-year programme is designed for primary schools that are new to teaching for mastery and want to build a strong foundation for long-term change.

This programme is for primary schools that have previously taken part in a Teaching for Mastery Work Group and want to continue to deepen and embed their approach.

Specialist Knowledge for Teaching Mathematics Programmes

Specialist Knowledge for Teaching Mathematics (SKTM) Programmes are for individual teachers to develop specialist knowledge to improve their practice. Schools that have a participant in the SKTM programme one year are eligible to apply for another participant the following year. For 2025/26 we will running the following SKTM Programmes:

SKTM Early Years Teachers Programme Pathways

Number Pathway

 

 

This programme aims to help teachers in EYFS improve their mathematical subject knowledge alongside developing understanding of age-appropriate pedagogies suitable for Early Years settings. Sessions will have an emphasis on promoting children’s Early Number Sense (a key indicator of later mathematical success).

Spatial Reasoning Pathway

 

 

This programme aims to help teachers in EYFS improve their mathematical subject knowledge alongside developing understanding of age-appropriate pedagogies suitable for Early Years settings.

 SKTM Primary Teachers Programme Pathways

Number Pathway

 

 

Designed for teachers who would like to further develop their specialist knowledge for teaching maths, the programme is based on five core primary modules- Policy and impact on practice, number sense, additive reasoning, multiplicative reasoning and fractions.

Spatial Reasoning Pathway

 

 

This programme will focus on- The importance of spatial reasoning within the mathematics curriculum, understanding the properties of shapes and developing geometric reasoning, enhancing opportunities for spatial reasoning and considering links between spatial reasoning and number/calculation.

SKTM Primary Early Career Teachers Programme

Primary Early Career Teachers Programme 

 

 

This programme strikes a balance between developing teachers’ maths subject knowledge and pedagogical content knowledge, alongside classroom practice to support the learning of maths. 

Participants will be those identified as having recently started their teaching career (those in their second or third year of teaching)

This programme is designed to support teaching assistants (TAs) in developing specialist knowledge for teaching mathematics, thus enabling them to understand, teach and support pupils in maths in the classroom.

Years 5-8 Continuity Work Group

Years 5-8 Continuity Work Group

 

This Work Group aims to strengthen the transition from primary to secondary school by focusing on curriculum and pedagogical continuity over Years 5 to 8. Participants should be teachers of Years 5-8 in primary, secondary, middle school and all-through schools who have some responsibility for curriculum development

Multi-Academy Trust Maths Lead Community

 

The community is for MAT maths leads overseeing multiple schools – both new and returning participants. MATs must support participants to attend three in-person days and take part in inter-sessional activity.
